Assistant Art Director of Custom Media

Ohio Magazine, a division of Great Lakes Publishing, has an opportunity for growth and adventure for right artist and traveler with our Assistant Art Director of Custom Media position.

Day-to-day duties entail:

  • Meeting and engaging with clients to discuss branding and visual goals
  • Creating layouts for custom media projects that hit – and exceed – these goals (be it magazines, travel guides, maps, apps, websites, media kits, posters, ads and more)
  • Collaborating with a team of editors, sales reps and photographers across the Cleveland and Columbus offices
  • Cultivates relationships with photographers and illustrators and partakes in networking
  • Attends photoshoots on a regular basis
  • Maintains organized files
  • Attend press checks and client meetings as needed
  • Travel Ohio – from discovering treehouses in Mohican to tasting third-generation cheese at Grandpa’s Cheesebarn
  • Have fun (really)

A superior understanding of design concepts, typography, photography and software is key; web design and photo skills are major pluses. The ideal candidate will work well under deadline pressure (there’s a Starbucks in the building!) and will report directly to the Managing Art Director.


  • Outstanding portfolio displaying top-notch creativity
  • Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Familiar with Mac OS
  • Knowledge of digital photography and retouching
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Must take direction and assert ideas quickly
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail necessary in order to handle a number of projects simultaneously
  • Must work well in a deadline-driven environment
  • BFA in design or equivalent experience
  • Must be able to travel
