CANADIANS FEEL AMERICA HAS A LOT TO OFFER, BUT DON’T FEEL SAFE OR WELCOMED.
Key findings from Longwoods International, fielded April 10:
- 79% of Canadians have travel plans in the next 6 months. Though 39% either plan to visit or already have a trip booked:
- 60% said US policies and politics make them less likely to visit.
- 39% had planned a trip but cancelled.
- 29% chose to postpone their upcoming trip to the US.
- The leading reasons why they have postponed or cancelled a trip is political statements made by US leaders (64%) and tariffs (79%).
- However, the exchange rate between the US dollar and Canadian dollar also remains a key factor (47%).
- Majority of Canadian respondents strongly agree that the US has lots of things to see and do (84%), has interesting landmarks or sights (83%), and is a place with interesting local people, cultures, or traditions (61%).
- Though Canadians find the US to be interesting and diverse:
- 38% strongly disagreed they would feel welcome, where 43% strongly agreed.
- 37% strongly disagreed that the US is a safe place to visit, where 43% strongly agreed.
- 35% strongly disagreed the US was welcoming of Canadians, where 42% strongly agreed.
- 40% strongly disagreed with the US welcomes travelers with diverse backgrounds, where 40% strongly agree.
- 38% strongly disagreed that international travelers are welcomed here, where 38% strongly agreed.
