Social Media Specialist/ Community Engagement Associate

Title: Social Media Specialist/Community Engagement Associate
Reports To: Executive Director

 

The Social Media Specialist/Community Engagement Associate is responsible for maintaining and creating online marketing content for the Bureau. They interface and create relationships with community representatives across the county, with travel bloggers and online engagement managers throughout the travel/tourism industry, and with online users of Bureau social sites to foster greater visitation to Lake County, Ohio.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Social Media
o Maintain the Bureau’s social sites: Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube, Wordpress Blog; and others as they emerge
o Create and place social advertisements that promote Lake County and overnight accommodations
o Create, research, design, write monthly e-blast and quarterly members’ newsletter
o Research and develop travel writer/blogs, social sites to inform about Lake County activities
o Positively engage with online users on social sites
o Partner with other travel agencies for large scale initiatives
o Host unique online engagement events through county collaboration
Community Engagement
o Interface with State of Ohio Department of Travel and Tourism, Destination Cleveland, BeThePlus, CoolCleveland, and other tourism entities
o Attend pertinent seminars
o Give presentations in travel/tourism/online engagement industry
o Schedule, implement, and periodically suggest new community-based programs, partnerships, and other engagement initiatives
o Create mechanisms for internal and external evaluation of engagement initiatives and deliver monthly reports on statistics and initiatives to Executive Director and Board of Directors
o Manage and recruit for the Lake County Community Ambassadors and Lake County Street Team
o Contribute to the work of the wider communications strategy for the Lake County Visitors Bureau, including internal/external communications, public affairs, media work and events, as appropriate

 

Qualifications:
ï‚· To perform this position successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
ï‚· Experience with Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube video creation, Instagram, and Wordpress is essential
ï‚· Experience with Adobe Photoshop Elements, graphic design, photography, and videography a plus

 

Experience/Education:
ï‚· Language Skills: Excellent writing and verbal communications skills, ability to compose letters, website material, e-newsletter articles plus other short written materials, conduct phone interviews, speak professionally and courteously, present information publicly, and respond to questions from stakeholders, staff, general public, and board members.

 

ï‚· Other Requirements: Outstanding organizational skills, strong team player, ability to work independently, familiarity with Lake County tourism and hospitality industry, Lake County resident preferred. Also, ability to work flexible house – few weekends possible i.e. Vintage Ohio. Valid driver’s license with possible background check.

 

ï‚· Physical Demands: The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

o Frequent talking and/or hearing
o Regular sitting
o Occasional standing, walking and lifting and/or carry visitor guides and calendar of events boxes, 20 to 25 pounds and limited delivery using Bureau vehicle or personal car with mileage reimbursement
o Requires close vision

 

Work Environment
ï‚· Office environment, moderate noise, located in Victoria Place, Painesville with numerous additional Lake County economic development agencies

 

Hours –
ï‚· 32 hours weekly to start( negotiable) flexible schedule depending on event coverage
ï‚· Lake County resident preferred. Knowledge of Lake County tourism, i.e. attractions, hotels, special events a must.

 

The Lake County Visitors Bureau is an independent, 501c6, non- profit, destination marketing agency funded- not by local taxes- but from a three percent Lake County Hotel/Motel Occupancy Tax.
