Job Summary: The Marketing and Visitor Experience Director guides the development and implementation of the Conservatory’s marketing and visitor experience strategies and directs activities that are part of the visitor experience including exhibition interpretation, customer service, and retail gift shop operations. The Director spearheads marketing programs, relationships and strategies that sustain the Conservatory’s image, mission and vision, while ensuring its position as a top cultural arts attraction. The Director is responsible for developing the annual revenue and expense budgets for each area, and leading and managing employees in tactics that will create and sell a positive experiences for visitors.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops, researches, executes and evaluates all advertising, public relations and promotions on a local, regional and national level; Manages relationships with the media, businesses, stakeholders, and/or the general community
  • Develops annual marketing strategy/plan with input from all departments including Education, Horticulture, Event Sales and Catering, Development/Membership, Exhibitions, Visitor Services, and Gift Shop.
  • Provides operational oversight and long-term planning to Visitor Services, including the Visitor Center, group sales, guided tours, and the manager on duty program.
  • Provides operational oversight and long-term planning to the Botanica Gift Shop, including the store vision, buying/merchandising, display, and vendor relations.
  • Develops and manages implementation of the Conservatory’s customer service training program ensuring optimal patron experiences.
  • Manages department budgets, processes vendor invoices and communicates them in a timely manner to the Business Office.
  • Collaborates in the creation of in-house and external communications including brochures, newsletters, signage, exhibition collateral, ads, radio and television spots brand image pieces, website, and digital messaging.
  • Assists other staff with written communication and public presence to establish the Conservatory’s voice and maintain the brand.
  • Identifies potential markets, program offerings, and customer service improvements through surveys and research Works with direct reports to develop, gather, analyze, and report visitor metrics, retail sales results, and marketing outcomes to make recommendations and put practices into place that increase revenues and efficiencies.
  • Develops professional and vendor relationships and seeks strategic partnerships and collaborations
  • Staff liaison to the Marketing Committee of the Board of Trustees

Requirements:

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communication, Arts Administration or related field
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in a similar position at an organization of comparable scope and size to the Conservatory is highly desirable
  • Proficient in managing relationships and projects within tight time frames and limited resources
  • Experience with customer service, customer evaluation, budget planning
  • Knowledge and experience in web communications and public relations strategies
