Internship Opportunity

Dennison Depot Offers Student’s Opportunity to Excel through Summer Internship

Students who want to excel are encouraged to join the Depot as a summer intern.  The Dennison Railroad Depot Museum is offering high school and college students the opportunity to expand their skills, knowledge and experience enabling them to excel in a unique summer internship environment.  Whether you love business, history or technology, you may be one of only 6 students who will be selected to be part of this hands-on, project driven, idea inspiring program.

The Museum is specifically seeking students in the following categories:  students who illustrate a passion for history and artifacts, students who enjoy creating, planning and implementing special events, students who wants to put their technology skills to work and students who are interested in the business and marketing end of operating a Museum or non-profit.  The Depot will be offering six internship positions focusing on these areas of technology, history and preservation, event planning, and marketing/business.

Intern students are invited to be part of the Dennison Depot Team and learn valuable skills working project driven experiences.   The four students will be actively engaged not only shadowing and learning from staff, but also focusing on creating their own project.  Students have a chance to learn at the Dennison Railroad Depot Museum, but take part in three Museums, each at ta different stage of development.  Participants will have the opportunity to travel between historic Schoenbrunn Village and the Uhrichsville Clay Museum. Throughout the summer program, students will learn valuable leadership, teambuilding, and networking skills as well as resume building experience.

Upon completion of this challenging program, all students will receive a certificate of completion, recommendation letters, and a $250 stipend.

If you are excited about learning,  exchanging  new ideas,  developing new skills and getting involved in the local community, this program is for you.  Specialized projects can include such activities as problem solving, inventorying and researching artifacts, assisting in collection management, creating new museum storage spaces, grant writing, event planning for small events and major events such as the  Clay Workers Picnic, Colonial Trade Faire, children’s workshops, and Autumn Lantern Tour,  creative writing for press release and public speaking for programs and tours, social media skills to promote the museums, creation of databases, and customer service relationships.

High School students beginning their Junior or Senior years and all college students are eligible to participate.  Each must complete an application for this summer experience, go through an interview process and provide two letters of recommendation.  The internship will begin in June and last through August, ten weeks long.  Scheduling will be flexible, but participants must be able to work a minimum of 16 hours per week.  Applications are available at the Dennison Railroad Depot Museum or by emailing civilwar@dennisondepot.org
